The White River Craft Center Weaving Studio has been active since 2002, with generations of students, artists, and local weavers learning and creating here. From the early days of WRCC, the Friday Weavers group has helped build the studio, care for equipment, and grow fiber arts programming through shared knowledge, donated materials, and a deep commitment to community.
Today, we’re building on that foundation with three ways to engage with textiles at WRCC: Workshops, Studio Membership, and Study Groups.
Our weaving and textile workshops offer structured learning in specific techniques, from beginning weaving to fabric printing, doubleweave, drafting, color, selvedges, and more.
Workshops are instructor-led, scheduled in advance, and designed to support skill development through focused curriculum and hands-on practice. See detailed descriptions below
Studio Membership is designed for artists who are familiar with the basics of weaving, either through a foundations class or self-study.
Membership provides access to our weaving studio, looms, tools, and shared studio resources, along with a monthly yarn allowance for in-studio use. This is a good fit for weavers who are ready for independent studio time and want to continue building their practice in a supportive environment.
Study Groups are collaborative learning opportunities organized around a broad topic or technique.
A facilitator provides creative prompts, resources, and a starting point for exploration. Participants continue with their own research and making between sessions, then return to share what they’ve learned with the group.

The White River Craft Center has the equipment and materials you need to begin learning how to weave.
Our Introduction to Weaving program is taught by experienced instructor Susan Rockwell, who has been teaching weaving for more than 30 years. Students learn on table looms and gain the foundational skills needed to begin weaving their own projects, such as scarves, household linens, clothing, or wall pieces.
We currently offer two formats for Introduction to Weaving:
In this 36-hour intensive, students learn the fundamentals of weaving on a table loom.
Between the two weekend sessions, students take their loom home and weave a sampler exploring different weave structures. Students then plan and begin a project of their own during the final weekend and take the loom home again to finish the piece.
The class meets one final time, scheduled with the group, to return looms and share finished projects.
Cost: $475
Includes loom use, equipment, and supplies.
For students looking for more flexibility, Introduction to Weaving is also available as six consecutive Friday sessions during Friday open weaving studio time.
This format covers the same material as the Two-Weekend Intensive. Students learn on a table loom, take the loom home at specific intervals, complete a sampler, and plan a final project from beginning to end.
The final Friday session includes a group show-and-tell of samplers and finished projects.
Cost: $475
Includes loom use, equipment, and supplies. Payment installments are available.
Students must commit to six Friday sessions, arranged with instructor Susan Rockwell.
Our weaving studio includes table looms, 4-shaft floor looms, 8-shaft floor looms, and a 12-foot-wide 4-shaft floor loom.
Over the years, many of the studio’s looms, yarns, tools, and weaving materials have been generously donated by community members. This shared resource continues to support learning, experimentation, and connection across generations of weavers.
A weekly group of local weavers meets at WRCC on Fridays.
The Friday Weavers have played an essential role in building and sustaining the weaving studio from the early days of the Craft Center. Their knowledge, care, and commitment continue to shape the studio and support new generations of fiber artists.
As part of the ongoing evolution of our Weaving Studio, we are making space, reorganizing, and sharing resources from the studio.
We currently have a variety of weaving equipment available, including looms, parts, quilting frames, spinning tools, and more.
